HyperLinker

From Wikipedia, the free game project

Turn Wikipedia into a game of connections.

HyperLinker transforms the world’s largest encyclopedia into a high-stakes race through human knowledge. Using a browser extension, players bridge the gap between any two articles—from Quantum Mechanics to Jazz—using nothing but internal wikilinks.

No search bars, no shortcuts. Learn fast, think faster, and discover exactly how far your curiosity can take you.

How to play

A standard game session begins by selecting a Starting Article and a Target Article within the Game Lobby. Once the session is initiated, the player is automatically redirected to the starting page.

The objective is to reach the target article using exclusively internal hyperlinks located within the body text of Wikipedia entries. The use of the browser's native search functionality, external search engines, or manual URL entry is prohibited under standard game rules.

Features

Interactive HUD

The extension injects a high-transparency "liquid glass" Heads-Up Display (HUD) directly into the Wikipedia tab. This interface provides real-time feedback, including a visual "train-map" of the current path and history segments.

Enforceable Restrictions

Lobby hosts can enforce various constraints to increase difficulty, such as removing all images, introductory paragraphs, or dates from the articles during the race.

Multiplayer Race

Real-time synchronization allows multiple participants to race toward the same goal simultaneously. The HUD updates dynamically to show the relative positions of all competitors on the shared path map.

Statistical Tracking

The system maintains precise records of total clicks and elapsed time for every session. Detailed per-node statistics allow players to review their efficiency at each checkpoint.

Installation

To participate in a game session, the HyperLinker browser extension must be installed on a Chromium-based browser. The installation process is as follows:

  1. Navigate to the official download page.
  2. Select the option to add the extension to the browser.
  3. Confirm the necessary permissions to allow the extension to interface with Wikipedia domains.
  4. Pin the HyperLinker icon to the browser toolbar for quick access and status monitoring.
